 There are system codes built in that will assist the service tech in diagnosing the problem.  These codes will be erased if the system is turned off. 

but leave the fan running.  If the system has iced up, the service tech cannot service it until it has thawed out.  Your air conditioner can turn into a large ice cube! 

Check your filter every 30 - 60 days.  If you've been doing any work in your home (remodeling, sheet rock, spray paint, check it more often.  Lack of airflow will overheat your system and possibly cause damage.
